Today, I would like to share with you five common faults of high-voltage motors and our on-site maintenance methods.

I. Winding Faults
Winding faults are one of the most common faults in high-voltage motors. They mainly manifest as insulation aging, local overheating, short circuits, or open circuits, etc.


Causes of Winding Faults
Insulation Aging: Long-term operation causes the insulation material to lose its elasticity and strength.
Overvoltage Surges: Overvoltage surges caused by lightning strikes or unstable systems.
Mechanical Vibration: Vibration caused by improper motor installation or external factors.


Maintenance Methods
Insulation Testing: Use a megohmmeter to measure the insulation resistance to determine the insulation condition of the windings.
Partial Discharge Detection: Use a partial discharge tester to detect the degree of aging of the winding insulation.
Winding Replacement: If damage to the windings is detected, the windings need to be replaced in a timely manner.


II. Bearing Faults
Bearing faults can lead to unstable operation of the motor, generating noise and vibration. In severe cases, it can cause the motor to stop.


Causes of Bearing Faults
Poor Lubrication: Insufficient lubricating oil or deteriorated lubricating oil.
Foreign Objects Entering: Dust, metal particles, etc. entering the bearing.
Bearing Wear: Severe wear of the bearing due to long-term use.


Maintenance Methods
Lubrication Maintenance: Regularly check the lubrication condition of the bearing and add or replace the lubricating oil in a timely manner.
Cleaning and Inspection: Regularly check and clean the bearing to ensure there are no foreign objects.
Bearing Replacement: If severe wear of the bearing is found, it should be replaced immediately.


III. Cooling System Faults
Faults in the cooling system may cause the motor to overheat, thus affecting its normal operation.


Causes of Cooling System Faults
Insufficient Cooling Water: Insufficient cooling water flow or blocked pipelines.
Cooling Fan Faults: The fan is damaged or the drive belt is loose.
Heat Exchanger Scaling: Scaling on the inner wall of the heat exchanger affects the heat exchange efficiency.


Maintenance Methods
Flow Detection: Detect the cooling water flow to ensure it is within the normal range.
Fan Inspection: Check whether the fan is running normally and whether the belt is loose.
Heat Exchanger Cleaning: Regularly clean the heat exchanger to prevent scaling from affecting the cooling effect.


IV. Power Supply Problems
Power supply problems include unstable voltage, power supply phase loss, etc., all of which will affect the normal operation of the motor.


Causes of Power Supply Problems
Unstable Power Supply System: Large fluctuations in the grid voltage.
Line Faults: Aging of the lines or poor contact.
Transformer Faults: The transformer is damaged or overloaded.


Maintenance Methods
Voltage Monitoring: Install voltage monitoring equipment to detect voltage fluctuations in a timely manner.
Line Maintenance: Regularly check the power supply lines to ensure good connections.
Transformer Maintenance: Regularly detect and maintain the transformer to ensure its normal operation.


V. Vibration Faults
Motor vibration not only affects its normal operation but may also cause damage to mechanical equipment.


Causes of Vibration Faults
Unbalance: The rotor or other components are unbalanced.
Looseness: Bolts or other connecting parts are loose.
Unstable Foundation: The motor installation foundation is not stable.


Maintenance Methods
Balance Correction: Correct the unbalanced components.
Tightening Inspection: Regularly check bolts and other connecting parts to ensure there is no looseness.
Foundation Reinforcement: Check and reinforce the motor foundation.
